Shaggy beard…check. Paunchy belly…check. Disheveled look…double check. Tom Selleck has certainly let his hair down since his forced retirement from the hit TV show in which he starred for 14 years.
The transformation from the iconic mustached man’s man to the grizzly and disheveled post-retirement look was starkly apparent during his recent outing.
Since CBS’s shocking decision to axe Blue Bloods – the hit drama Selleck starred in as Police Commissioner Frank Reagan since 2010 – the 80-year-old actor has kept a low profile at his $12million avocado ranch in Thousand Oaks, California.
Selleck occasionally breaks cover to run errands around town – and to indulge in his guilty pleasure: McDonald’s.
He embodied the laid-back retirement lifestyle as he left his 63-acre Thousand Oaks compound recently, tucked near the western edge of Los Angeles County, behind the wheel of his white Ram 1500 pickup truck.
With windswept grizzled hair pushed back out of his face and severely grown out facial hair, the Blue Blood alumni headed to the local gym for a quick workout.
Exiting the gym, his workout clothes consisted of an all-black ensemble with a T-shirt, shorts and sneakers.

Gone was his signature suave, mustached look. Instead, he stepped out in an all-black outfit – T-shirt, shorts, and sneakers – with grown-out facial hair as he hit the gym to kick off his day

After his work out, he rewarded himself with a drop to his favorite fast food joint, McDonald’s, where he was seen in Daily Mail photo munching on a Big Mac and a large soda in his white Ram 1500 pickup truck
As his reward, Selleck headed to his favorite spot, the drive-through of McDonald’s, which he’s been spotted in multiple times, and was captured in exclusive Daily Mail photos munching on a Big Mac and large soda in his truck which sat in the car park.
With lunch out of the way, Selleck moved on to more serious business, heading to an office building to file undisclosed paperwork.
Still not fully satisfied, he swung by a local deli, grabbed a bag of Lay’s Baked potato chips, and returned to his truck to snack once more.
The once-leading man then headed back to his idyllic Ventura County compound, which he purchased for $5million from crooner Dean Martin in 1988.
That same year he purchased his beloved home, his iconic eight-year role in Magnum, P.I. came to an end and he welcomed daughter Hannah, now 36, with new wife Jillie Mack, who he had married 12 months prior.
The couple have stayed together and are also parents to Kevin, 59, Selleck’s son with his ex-wife, former actress and model Jacqueline Ray.

His avocado ranch has served as his oasis, especially since the shocking news of Blue Bloods cancellation came to light and its last episode aired in December 2024.
Selleck was heartbroken by the news, telling TV Insider in 2024: ‘My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go.’
‘I’m not going to turn into a bitter old guy saying, ‘Get off my lawn!’ I don’t believe in holding grudges, but if you were to say to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot you got, and it is going to guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would be almost impossible to believe.’
‘So how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out.’
It’s unclear whether the actor has fully come to terms with the network’s decision, but he’s clearly undergone a transformation – trading in his signature cropped haircut and neatly trimmed mustache for a grown-out, unkempt look in retirement.
The retirement may not be permanent, as on his IMDB page it states that he has an upcoming role in an untitled Jesse Stone Project – a TV franchise that saw Selleck in the titular role in nine movies, with the last being released in 2015.

Selleck, who played fictional NYPD commissioner Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods (pictured), had made no secret over his disappointment with the series being axed by CBS with the last episode airing in December 2024

For solace, the actor has been residing on his ranch near Westlake Village and Los Angeles County’s western border that includes a Spanish colonial-style home, guest house, golf green, a sizable chicken coop, large circular fire pit, water fountain, hiking trails and private helipad

The property is reported to have more than 1,500 trees and an array of other greenery, much of which Selleck planted himself during his 37 years on the property
There’s no new information aside from the project being in development.
As of now, Selleck has been residing on his ranch near Westlake Village and Los Angeles County’s western border that includes a Spanish colonial-style home, guest house, golf green, a sizable chicken coop, large circular fire pit, water fountain, hiking trails and private helipad.
It also is reported to have more than 1,500 trees and an array of other greenery, much of which Selleck planted himself during his 37 years on the property.
Selleck said he is especially partial to the wildflowers he has seeded throughout the sprawling, wooded oasis.
He shared that he loves to ride his ATV around the estate checking on its most recent blooms.
‘When it’s coldest, one of them blooms and another one comes in,’ he said. ‘I know it sounds stupid, but I just watch them grow.’
The actor previously revealed he handles much of the upkeep on the property himself.
‘My relationships and my ranch keep me sane,’ he told People in 2020.
