Avril Lavigne reunited with her ex-husband Deryck Whibley as the pair played a set together during Vans Warped Tour rock festival.
The Canadian singer, 40, took to Instagram on Monday to share a gushing message about performing with her ex.
Avril and Sum 41 musician Deryck, known by his stage name Bizzy D, got engaged in 2005 when he was 26 and she was 21. They married a year later.
But by 2009 the couple had split, with reports saying Avril felt she had ‘married too young’.
The pair seem to remain on good terms though, with Deryck, 45, making a surprise appearance during Avril’s headline set at rock festival Vans Warped Tour in Washington DC.
Their reunion comes amid Deryck’s ongoing health battles, after he was hospitalised in 2023 with pneumonia and Covid, which led to heart failure.

Gushing over her ex, Avril wrote: ‘This legend @deryckwhibley from @sum41 joined me for one of the best pop punk anthems of all time In Too Deep.’
She added of the show: ‘Headlined @vanswarpedtour last night and it was everything I would have expected and more!
‘It was one of the best crowds and you guys know how to rock.’
Deryck’s appearance comes amid his ailing health, with his band forced to cancel tour dates last year.
His health scare began in 2023 when his wife announced on Instagram that he was rushed to the ER with pneumonia alongside a photo of the singer-songwriter being wheeled on a gurney into an ambulance with a mask on.
‘Deryck and I were suppose to be in Chicago right now, celebrating our eight year wedding anniversary but the universe had a different plan for us,’ Ariana wrote in the caption. ‘We spent the entire night in the ER and will now be spending the next few days here in the hospital as he fights through pneumonia.’
She went on to reveal the seriousness of the situation by disclosing the stress caused by the inflammatory condition of the lungs.
‘The scariest part is that there is a lot of strain on his heart and they are telling us that there is a possibility of heart failure,’ she continued, with obvious distress coming through in her words.

Discussing the news on her blog, Avril penned: ‘We have been friends since I was 17, started dating when I was 19, and married when I was 21. I am grateful for our time together, and I am grateful and blessed for our remaining friendship.
‘I admire Deryck and have a great amount of respect for him. He is the most amazing person I know, and I love him with all my heart.
‘Deryck and I are separating and moving forward on a positive note.’

The couple tied the knot in 2013 a year after they started dating but it wasn’t meant to be and by 2015 they had split.
Despite going their separate ways the pair have also remained good friends and continue to spend lots of time together.
After a string of flings, Avril later began dating Mod Sun in 2021 and their relationship quickly progressed, with the couple getting engaged the same year.
They shocked fans when it emerged they’d split in February in 2023 and Mod Sun said he was ‘blindsided’ when the singer called it quits.
She has since been linked to Tyga and country music singer Nate Smith.
