Ulrika Jonsson boasts she takes ‘great joy’ in reports Coleen Rooney will become the main breadwinner in place of ‘jobbing football manager’ Wayne as she says change must ‘really sting’

Ulrika Jonsson has boasted that she takes ‘great joy’ in the reports that Coleen Rooney will become the main breadwinner in her family with husband Wayne. 

It was recently revealed that the WAG’s earnings are soaring thanks to her fame skyrocketing following her recent stint on I’m A Celebrity, while Wayne was sacked as coach of Plymouth Argyle last year following a run of poor results. 

And discussing the news, Ulrika shared her elation for Coleen’s success as she reflected on being the higher earner in her own past three marriages.

Speaking in her column for The Sun, the Swedish star, 57, told how the change of circumstances must ‘really sting’ for Wayne, whom she described as a ‘jobbing football manager’.

She penned: ‘The news this week that the relentlessly loyal Coleen Rooney may soon overtake hubby Wayne in the earnings stakes brought me great joy… Oh my, how the tables have turned.’

In her article, Ulrika looked back at her relationship history and observed that she’d ‘always earned more than the men I’ve been with.’

She then turned her attentions to Coleen, noting that her huge success on I’m A Celebrity and the lucrative jobs that followed means she’s no longer a ‘mere gymslip of a girl’ who stood by Wayne as he shot to stardom.

Ulrika applauded Coleen, who shares four sons with the former footballer, for remaining staunchly loyal to Wayne and keeping ‘a stable home’ as he consistently pushed ‘the marriage fidelity boundaries’.

And now with Coleen’s fame and money on the rise amid a blip in Wayne’s career, the former Gladiator host commented on how things must ‘really suck’ for the sportsman amid the huge change.

She said: ‘Wayne, on the other hand, who was always used to the adoration and adulation of football fans, is now a not overly successful jobbing football manager for minor clubs, while Coleen walked away from her stint in the TV jungle to the sound of success and more lucrative work offers.

‘That must really suck for him, despite his popularity as one of the many ex-pros on the TV punditry merry-go-round. He is probably mighty proud of Coleen, but Lord, it must really sting to be known as Mr Coleen Rooney after all this time. I bet even he couldn’t have foreseen this turn of events.’

Ulrika went on to add that while everyone still has ‘affection’ for Wayne amid his past footballing achievements, it would be interesting to see if the shift ‘changes the dynamic of his marriage’ to Coleen.  

Coleen reportedly boasts a net worth of £15million, with her hubby thought to be worth an enormous £170million thanks to his Premier League footballing days.

But in the new phase of their lives, Coleen could be set to take over as the main breadwinner as her popularity soars.

Amid her skyrocketing fame following her hugely successful I’m A Celeb stint, Disney announced on Monday a new premium access series titled The Rooneys focusing on her and Wayne’s life.

Thanks to her ventures, new figures for her firm, CWR 2021, up to September 2024 show the booming business already had £580,000 banked – and that was before I’m A Celeb and her Disney deal.

Meanwhile former manager of Plymouth Arsenal Wayne was reportedly making £500,000, before leaving the club in December. 

A financial expert told The Sun: ‘These earnings show that, even before Coleen signed up for I’m A Celeb, she was already bringing in more money than Wayne.

‘On the back of her jungle stint, where she was incredibly popular with the viewing public, she’s now likely to see her earnings soar even further – and the increased interest in Coleen after she did so well on the show is also likely to have sealed the deal on the Disney contract.’

The expert continued: ‘Getting big bucks from a global streamer, plus her pay cheque from ITV, will no doubt swell the Rooneys’ coffers even further.’

In March, Coleen revealed that she has eclipsed Wayne in popularity after starring on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

Coleen took part on last year’s series of the ITV show where she finished as runner up to McFlyn’s Danny Jones after winning over a huge number of fans.

And the mother-of-four has explained that she now gets even more attention in public than her famous footballer husband.

Speaking to The Mirror at an event in Manchester, Coleen admitted she was humbled by the ‘positivity’ of people coming up to chat to her about her time in the jungle.
